Poverty comes from not having money or not being
able to have the things you. It also has
other factors that influence poverty instead of just money such as, job, school,
family, and your love life. Poverty also plays a big role in brain development
because when people become poor they start to feel very low about themselves
and your brain needs energy and excitement and if it doesn’t have that then it
will cause problems with the way your brain is developed. Brain development is
a very important thing because it helps our brain mature and learn new things.
It also helps with the memory process because our brains help us remember
things and without good brain development they will not be able to comprehend
on situations.
Poverty impacts brain development because when you
live in poverty some people tend to give up on lots of things because they feel
like it is not getting any better.
Furthermore, it was found that children in poverty were more likely to
experience stressful life events, such as moving house or schools, which can
have an impact on brain development (Whiteman).” In this quote they are
describing that moving and changing schools have an impact on brain development.
Therefore, you are adapting to a new environment and the learning could be
different, which could change your mind set to trying to get comfortable in a
new environment. People who grew up with
teaching and learning right from wrong are less likely to become in the state
of poverty because they know different ways to prevent it.
Jobs also play a big part in poverty and in brain
development. Jobs teach you specific things and help give you more knowledge in
a specific field. Jobs impact your brain
because it helps your brain learn and expand. Jobs can also cause poverty. For
example from my experience, I was working at a job that pays lower than minimum
wage; I was trying to find a way to get more hours so I can try and get a
decent check. However, my check came out to only being $100 and I had bills to
pay, I had then started to feel stressed and start going into the state of
poverty. On the other hand, jobs can prevent poverty because if you are working
at a high-paying job then you will not have anything to stress or be depressed
about. "Research finds that poor children are more likely to end up with
impaired brain function as adults (Badger)." This quote means that because
children experienced poverty at a young age when they grow up to be an adult
their brain will not be functioned to the full extent.
Furthermore, anything you do can have an impact on
your brain and the way it develops because when you do things it makes you
think and sometimes you run across things that are stuck in your head which is
also using your brain and helping it to remember things. It is very important
that babies start their brain development early because baby’s brains are easy
to remember things. Growing up in poverty or just being in poverty in general is
easy to overcome because people can always succeed. Brain development is an
everyday usage because you are always your brain no matter what. "Poverty
imposes a kind of tax on the brain. It sucks so much mental bandwidth- capacity
spent wrestling with... That the poor have fewer cognitive resources left over
to succeed at parenting, education, or work. Experiencing poverty is like
knocking 13 points of your IQ as you are trying to navigate everything else
(Badger)." In this quote it shows that when you are in the state of
poverty it is so hard for you to understand anything else but the financial
issues or the negative issues that you are going through. Going through poverty
can mess you up from your daily routine such as parenting, education and work.
When you are a parent you try your best to succeed with your child but if you
are going through something it makes it harder to pay attention to your daily parenting
skills.
Jobs are very hard to get and you have to sometimes
go through a long waiting process just to get hired. During this process you
could feel stress and anxiety because you're thinking about whether or not you
did well and if they liked you. People
use their brains every day because when you sleep you dream and that is still
having an impact on your brain. It seems like every New Year the poorer and
worse this economy gets because it is not as easy as it used to be like back in
the day. Minimum wage is another major problem in Illinois because it causes
lots of people to experience stress and anxiety on a daily basis just to try
and get enough hours to have a nice check that will cover the bills.
